Dave was a protester in the anti-tour movement who opposed the Springbok tour of 1981.
When South African supporters arrived in the country, Dave and other protesters went to Gisborne. A confrontation with some of the supporters arose outside the Gisborne Bar and Grill, which resulted in Dave getting beat up.[1]
